PNC to Host Training for Behavioral Health Providers

Westville – The Purdue University North Central campus will host training sessions for behavioral health providers and other professionals so that they may gain added insights into the treatment of military service members, veterans and their families.

The training will be provided by Star Behavioral Health Providers (SBHP), a partnership of the Indiana National Guard, the National Guard Bureau's Psychological Health Program, the Military Family Research Institute at Purdue University and the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration and will be organized into three tiers of training. As part of the three-tier statewide training initiative, PNC will host Tier One and Tier Two of the training. Tier Three, the third and final tier, will be offered (likely at another location) at a future date. There is no charge to attend the training hosted by PNC.

The SBHP Tier One training session will be held Feb. 9 in the Library -Student -Faculty Building, Room 144 from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tier Two training, which requires completion of Tier One for registration, will be March 22 and 23 from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tier Two attendees must attend both sessions.

This training is appropriate not only for behavioral health providers, but all professionals who interact with veterans. Because military service brings unique challenges, military members and their family members who seek assistance can feel that therapists and service providers unfamiliar with military terminology and culture may not understand all that they face. This training will enhance the ability of those who assist military members, veterans, and their families to be more effective in working with and serving them.

Behavioral health providers attending this training may earn continuing education units in the process. They will also be eligible for inclusion in a registry that will help service members and families seeking treatment to locate and contact providers who have had this training.
