PNC Odyssey Series Features Artist Steve Becker
WESTVILLE – Purdue University North Central 2009-10 Odyssey Arts and Cultural Events Series will feature "Juxtaposing Sight," an exhibit of the complementary photography styles of Steve Becker in the Library-Student-Faculty Building Assembly Hall, Room 02. The show is free and open to the public, but reservations are necessary. It will run through the end of December.
In “Juxtaposing Sight” Becker shares his exploration of SX/70 Polaroid manipulation to raw, straightforward, unapologetic black and white photos. He explains that the SX/70 Polaroid manipulation is a unique and rare style of photography that manually adjusts Polaroid pictures before the chemicals have set.
“The colorful, impressionistic images are a dreamlike procession,” said Becker. “Transitioning to the monochromatic, sharp, documentary photos is like choosing the rich, dark impressions of espresso after the sweet flavors of bubblegum ice cream. The immediate change may come as a shock, but the result promises to delight the senses.”
Becker had a successful career in advertising and marketing before he decided to live his true passion, photography.
His ability to make even the most reserved subject feel at ease has earned him commendation from clients all across the country. Becker continues to work out of Chicago and New York , both in studio and on location using innovative approaches to creating images.
To arrange a tour of Becker's art or to obtain further information about its purchase or the Odyssey Arts and Cultural Events Series, contact Judy Jacobi PNC assistant vice chancellor of Marketing and Community Relations, at 219-785-5200, ext. 5593.
