PNC Nursing Students Present Health Fair at LaPorte HS

Westville – Purdue University North Central Community Health Nursing students will present an “ Above the Influence” health fair for the freshmen and sophomore students of LaPorte High School on Oct. 23. This motivational fair will address issues related to drug and alcohol use and abuse as well as other pertinent health related topics.

The fair will include a panel presentation moderated by WIMS radio personality Brian Brophy and includes a LaPorte County deputy coroner, two parents of children who died of a drug-related overdose, two addiction counselors (one in recovery herself) and a local physician who treats individuals suffering from addiction.

The same group will assemble at 6 p.m. for a panel discussion that will also include LaPorte Mayor Blair Milo.

The PNC Nursing students are presenting the fair under the direction of Peggy Rose, assistant professor of Nursing and in cooperation with LaPorte High School principal Greg Handel, LaPorte High School student government representatives and advisor Erica White; Micki Webb, MSW, of the LaPorte County Drug Free Partnership and Joseph Bunch, MSW, counselor, with the LaPorte County Dorothy S. Crowley Juvenile Services Center.

The fair will also include a variety of vendors and booths addressing the issues that high school students face and students will have an opportunity to visit the interactive booths and displays, pick up information, ask questions and participate in the learning activities and demonstrations.

A number of give-away items will be offered and participating students are eligible to win a Kindle Fire as a door prize.
