PNC Participates in Area Student Leadership Conference
Westville – A number of Purdue University North Central students, faculty and staff will be participating in the fourth annual student leadership conference, “LEAD 2009: Building Strong Leaders in Turbulent Times” on Friday, April 3 at the Purdue University Calumet Student Union & Library Building. The event is open to the public. Registration is $20, with students admitted for $10.
The conference will be of interest to both students and professionals who are in a leadership role, those to aspire to be in leadership positions or anyone who seeks to improve their leadership skills. This is an opportunity to gain valuable insight into the different leadership styles and learn to become a more effective leader.
"Purdue North Central is excited to once again be a part of LEAD '09. Conferences like this are essential in helping our student leaders continue to grow and enrich the lives of those in Northwest Indiana," said Laura Weaver, PNC coordinator of Service Learning.
The conference begins with registration and continental breakfast at 9 a.m. and will feature a variety of breakout sessions throughout the day. The event concludes at about 3:30 p.m. The keynote speaker will be Charlie Adams, author of “Stoke the Fire Within: A Guide to Igniting Your Life!” Lunch will be served.
Among those leading the breakout sessions will be Barbara Austin, PNC director of Academic Advising, presenting "Discovering Your Strengths;" Anthony Cardenas, PNC assistant dean of Enrollment and Outreach Recruitment, presenting "Teambuilding in a Lego World;" Ronald Brownie, PNC assistant professor of Organizational Leadership And Supervision, presenting "Employee Career Development Using Individualized Performance Appraisals" and Gay Lyn Birkholz, PNC limited term lecturer in Business Ethics, presenting "The Ethical Leader."
The event is sponsored by the Northwest Indiana University Leadership Consortium, in partnership with Leadership Northwest Indiana (LNI). The Northwest Indiana University Leadership Consortium is comprised of representatives of Purdue North Central, Calumet College of St. Joseph, Indiana University Northwest, Ivy Tech Community College, Purdue University Calumet, Saint Joseph's College and Valparaiso University, who work together to complete projects that support leadership development in Northwest Indiana.
