During the conference, PNC students Cassandra Chester, of Valparaiso; Kristy Virgo, Hebron and Samuel Rogowski will take part in the Regional Case Competition. This competition will give the students four hours to review a case study, prepare a two- page written document about their solution, and prepare a fifteen-minute oral presentation with a PowerPoint.
Also competing will be teams from Baker College of Auburn Hills, Cleveland State University, University of Illinois at Champaign, Illinois State University, Indiana Tech, Purdue University, Purdue University North Central, University of South Dakota, St. Norbert College, University of Toledo and Western Michigan University.
The SHRM student chapter at PNC has also been nominated for a Merit Awards, an annual award that is given annual to recognize chapters for outstanding activities and programs.
The PNC team has accomplished a lot this academic year, said Dr. E. Anne Christo-Baker, assistant professor of Organizational Behavior and Leadership, the team advisor.
“The PNC student SHRM chapter went from being a non-functioning chapter with no members to one with about 30 members in less than six months,” she said.
To qualify for participation in the SHRM superior merit awards, chapters were required to complete at least 50 projects. The chapter has accomplished that. Its events include hosting a luncheon for the Northwest Indiana SHRM chapter and the Northern Indiana Human Resource Management Association (NIHRMA).The case competition is the chapter's last major event for this academic year.
The team's co-advisor is Sarah Sanders Smith, associate professor of Human Resources.
