PNC Hosts "Green" Housekeeping Presentation

Westville – Purdue University North Central recently hosted a meeting of the Northern Indiana Chapter of the International Executive Housekeepers Association, which featured a presentation on green cleaning and how it can be applied in everyday practices.
The International Executive Housekeepers Association meetings bring professionals together to learn more about good facilities management, housekeeping, security, training methods and operations practices. The meetings serve to keep members up to date on current practices and industry standard, and provide an opportunity to network and exchange useful information.
The meeting at PNC featured a program by representatives of Central Michigan University, winner of the 2011 American Schools and University Green Cleaning Award. The award recognizes educational institutions for their healthy and sustainable approaches to cleaning while protecting health and without harming the environment.
Bob McCormick, custodial supervisor and Laura Baslock, graduate assistant at Central Michigan University, described the university's green cleaning program and provided insights on how others may implement similar practices, tailored to their needs Information included a green model report, chemical and paper reduction, the use of microfiber cloths and sponges, the move to low mercury lighting, introduction of LEED requirements, energy saving strategies and formulating a successful communication strategy to share the green efforts on and off campus.
