PNC Students Donate to Food Bank of Northwest Indiana
WESTVILLE –Purdue University North Central students enrolled in the Introduction to Sociology classes raised money for the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana during spring semester.
The students took on a number of service learning projects to raise the money, including pancake dinners, producing and selling fundraiser bracelets and t-shirts, holding bake sales and collecting donations from local businesses. The students did much of their work in smaller groups and each group presented its donation to Angie Williams, executive director of the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana.
In the process the students learned more about poverty, hunger and social change in general. The classes are taught by Dr. Carla A. Pfeffer, assistant professor of Sociology and Christabel Rogalin, assistant professor of Sociology.
PNC Chancellor Dr. James B. Dworkin, watched as some of the groups presented their donations. “Thank you for what you've done,” he told the students. “I am quite passionate about service learning and this is an example of its positive results.”
