PNC, LaPorte County Symphony to Host Violinist Danielle Belen
The Purdue University North Central Odyssey Arts and Cultural Events Series and the LaPorte County Symphony Orchestra will host performances by Violinist Danielle Belen, winner of the 2008 Sphinx Competition.
On Monday, March 18, Belen will perform a solo recital at noon in the PNC Library-Student-Faculty Building, Room 144. The doors will open at 11:30 a.m. A limited number of reserved parking spaces will be available in PNC parking lot 1 for those attending the recital.

Following the recital, Belen will present a Master Class for violinists at PNC. Those who would like to attend may contact Bernel for details.

On Sunday, March 17, at 2 p.m., at Elston Performing Arts Center in Michigan City, IU Health LaPorte Hospital will present a Classic Concert with the The LaPorte County Symphony Orchestra and Conductor Philip Bauman welcoming Belen. The concert will start with “Overture of the Season,” commissioned by the family of Garry and JoFran Bendix specifically for the 40th anniversary of the LCSO. It was premiered during the Nov. 17 concert “Now and Then.” Its composer, Jerry Lackey, is a graduate of Indiana University and retired tubist for the South Bend Symphony.
Concert admission is $18 for adults; $15 for senior citizens. Students with a valid I.D. are admitted free. Concert-goers are encouraged to wear pink. In return, Indiana University Health LaPorte Hospital will provide free blood pressure screenings and tours of the IU Health Mobile before the concert and during intermission.

The Portage Township Live Entertainment Association will host an identical concert on Saturday, March 16 at 7 pm, at Portage High School, 6450 U.S. Hwy 6. Single admission tickets will be available at the door. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for students and Portage Township students are admitted free. Belen is a graduate of the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music and the Colburn Conservatory in Los Angeles. She is now on faculty at the Colburn School. She loves to work with young aspiring talent and enjoys teaching master classes and leading community engagements across the country. She is founder and artistic director of the Center Stage Strings summer camp of Three Rivers, Calif., for gifted young musicians from around the world.
