WESTVILLE Purdue University North Central mens
basketball team welcomed eight new players who have committed
to playing at PNC for the 2004-05 season.
PNC has six players returning from the 2003-2004 team that
had a 10 20 record. Team members forward Jim Tunis,
a North Judson native and Westville resident who graduated
in May and returning center Adam Dobrzeniecki, center from
Dyer, were named to the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference
(CCAC) AllConference Team. Tyler Moore, a returning forward
from Knox, earned an honorable mention.
Coach Grayling Gordon welcomed the new team members and expressed
optimism about the coming season.
"My coaching staff and I are extremely pleased with the
young men who have committed to continue their educations
and play basketball at PNC. We believe we have a strong class
of student-athletes who will give us depth and experience
at every position. These student-athletes will help PNC and
our returning lettermen build on the successes of the 200304
season so that, as a team, we can achieve even greater success
in 200405. More important than having the ability to play
the style of basketball we envision, these are young men with
great character and the ability to achieve their personal
and educational goals. They will be great ambassadors for
PNC."
The student-athletes represent a number of high schools, including
some upper classmen who are transferring to PNC from other
colleges. They are:
Shallun Culp, a graduate of Gary Lew Wallace High School
in Gary, who is a transfer student from Williston State College
in North Dakota. A combo guard, he plans to be a business
major. Named to the All-Area team while in high school, Gordon
considers him to be quick, athletic and a good scorer and
jumper.
Drew Dixon, a graduate of Clay High School in South
Bend, is transferring from Ancilla College. A combo guard
and forward, he is an excellent shooter and a tough defender,
who is quick and has excellent hands.
Steve Fox, also a transfer student from Ancilla College,
graduated from Warren Central High School in Indianapolis.
A small forward, Gordon complimented his jumping ability and
his jump shot, as well as his excellent defensive play. He
plans to major in Organizational Leadership and Supervision.
Justin Overholser, another transfer from Ancilla College,
went to Mishawaka High School. A combo guard, he is an excellent
shooter with good range. He qualified for the deans
list at Ancilla College.
Terry Polk, from Lew Wallace High School in Gary, is
a guard. He is considered to be a tough rebounder and defender.
He also plays center field on his high school baseball team.
Kevin Potchen, from Hammond Morton High School, is a 6-foot-6-inch
forward. Gordon calls him an athletic player who can score
inside and out.
Glen Walton, from Horace Mann High School in Gary,
he is a forward and is considered a good shooter and jumper.

he has good shooting abilities and is a talented rebounder.
